We thought it would be fun to have a show for really big work and to juxtapose it with really tiny work, thus the reason for the names Really BIG and Really tiny.  The shows are open to all artists in the tri-state area and new members are welcome to join and submit work. No theme has been specified for either exhibit, only size restrictions.  Information and perspectus for both shows can be found on the events page of our website www.tri-stateartguild.org

Our judge is himself a fantastic artist and potter. Joe Smith is an art professor at Oakland City College and we are confident that he will select the best entries for awards! Which by the way, are in the amounts of $200 Best of Show, $100 First, $50 Second for each show individually. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award that will be voted on during the reception on June 12 from 1-3pm and will be awarded at the end of the reception.  The reception is free and artists are encouraged to invite friends and family.

Artwork in the Really BIG Show must be at least 24″ x 36″ minimum with the maximum size of  6′ x 8′. Sculpture is accepted but artists are required to call ahead to see if a display case is available for the work. Extra large work that does not require protection may not need to be in a case, but please contact us anyway! There is no theme for either show, only the size has been specified. We do ask, however, that there be no nudes since Angel Mounds is a family place.

The Really tiny Show artwork frame size minimum is 4″ x 6″ and largest is “12 x 14″.  No theme is specified in this show either.  Entry info must be emailed to info@tri-stateartguild.org by May 29. Entry fees may be snail mailed by June 1 or submitted during the entry drop off.  Artists may also call 270-826-6674 for more information.

As always, we really appreciate our co-sponsors, the Friends of Angel Mounds for allowing our guild to exhibit there.  They are a fantastic group to work with! We hope everyone will make it a point to enter or at least visit the show while it is up!

Double the Art, Double the Exposure! http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/2010/04/03/double-the-art-double-the-exposure/ http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/2010/04/03/double-the-art-double-the-exposure/#comments Fri, 02 Apr 2010 23:49:42 +0000 Administrator http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/?p=57 Call for Artists!

The Tri-State Art Guild in cooperation with the Friends of Angel Mounds, is sponsoring a double exhibit of works by local and area artists. The shows juxtaposition each other; The Really BIG Show and The Really Tiny Show both run concurrently from June 6-August 6, 2010.  And not to forget, both of these shows are juried (which means there are awards) and each show has their own.  Don’t forget that the entry deadline to mail or email artwork information is May 29.

If you are interested in just how much you stand to win if you enter, see each show’s perspectus at www.tri-stateartguild.org/events

For artists working in large formats, this is the perfect opportunity to exhibit your work. Minimum size is 24″ x 36″ and max size is 6′ x 8′. I’m not sure how one would transport art that is the max size, but we will accept it if you can get it there.  And if the subject matter passes the criteria, ie. no nudes! Just remember that this is a “family” place and there will be lots of kids going through the exhibit so be thoughtful when entering.

On the other hand, the really tiny show is just that. Very small works with a max size of 12″ x 14″ and min size of 4″ x 6″. What is really nice for artists is that they can enter both shows for a one time fee of $15.00 + membership dues if they are not already a member. That is 4 pieces total. Two in each show! I would call that a bargain in this day and age. Where else could you find such a deal? Only the Tri-State Art Guild, that’s where. We are an independent artist organization dedicated to serving our members, not taking their money.

For new members that are entering for the first time, you be able to enter our shows for the next full year from the date you apply and most of our exhibits are free to enter! We can’t wait to hear from you!

Emotion Show http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/2010/02/07/emotion-show/ http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/2010/02/07/emotion-show/#comments Sat, 06 Feb 2010 22:14:02 +0000 Administrator http://tri-stateartguild.org/blog/?p=47 Emotion can be a powerful thing and often difficult to capture within a piece of art. But artist members of the Tri-State Art Guild have been asked to come up with artwork depicting an emotion of their choice. Granted, that will be a challenge, but they have until March 27, 2010 to complete the works. Also, beginning May 22, the juxtaposition of large and small artworks will be shown in the Really Big & Really Tiny Shows. More on these to come!

If non-member artists would like to participate in this and all of the remaining shows this year, all they have to do is go to our website www.tri-stateartguild.org and download a membership form and mail it in with their dues.  Annual dues are listed on the form. There is no charge to enter most of our shows with the exception of  juried shows and those open to non-members.  For additional questions about the guild, artists may call the guild president, Carolyn Jones, at 270-826-6674.
